Sheila Lukins, who, as an owner of the Silver Palate food shop and an author of four Silver Palate cookbooks, helped usher in the new American cooking of the 1980s, died on Sunday at age 66, at home in Manhattan.  Her obit is in the New York Times.

I’m pretty sure the Silver Palate was the first cookbook I ever purchased.   Salads, fresh ingredients and past were some of the things I remember most about it, and the wonderful line drawings and made up everything.  As a photographer you always want to see photos of the food you are cooking, but The Silver Palate gave me what I wanted without the photos.

Cheers,

Justin
